Senior Medical Science Liaisons (Sr. MSLs) are experienced MSLs with a proven track record in building and maintaining external stakeholder relationships and delivering on projects. Sr. MSLs leverage their scientific expertise to engage with healthcare professionals, institutions, and payers in a non-promotional manner. Sr. MSLs form partnerships with these stakeholders to deliver on the Medical strategy and provide insights to improve patient pathways and outcomes. Sr. MSLs also act as a valuable coach and mentor for the MSL team.

Main Responsibilities:

Federal Account Responsibility: VHA, DHA

  • The Federal Account Sr. MSL would develop long-term relationships with key federal customers at the Veterans Health Administration and Defense Health Agency.  This individual would work closely with the aligned Medical Regional Strategic Account Director and Field Medical Head who lead the overall Field Medical strategy for Federal Accounts.  The Federal Account Sr. MSL will work with federal aligned cross-functional partners to develop long-term strategy within assigned accounts/facilities. 

External Stakeholder Engagement – (60%)

  • Build and develop enduring peer-to-peer relationships with healthcare professionals, institutions across federal systems/groups at the facility level through scientific engagement and exchange.

  • Communicate science and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to positively shape patient care.

  • Understand KOL perspectives and needs to adapt and be relevant and valued by the stakeholder.

  • Act as partners to identify areas of mutual collaboration and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic field Medical engagement plans aligned to the CMP.

  • Communicate in an accurate, fair, and balanced manner, the benefits, risks, appropriate use, and clinical of the Vaccine portfolio.

  • Generate and share actionable and valuable insights then propose solutions in a timely manner, utilizing appropriate tools available and lead efforts on proposed solutions.

  • Supply data, facts, and observations and then lead the collation, analysis, and evaluation aspects of the Insights Generation process.

  • Support the team with data analysis and evaluation, escalating and following up on critical insights.

  • Assistance would also be provided in developing specific federal account medical content to support external engagement activities including conferences. 

  • Operate independently and support the federal account matrix team to develop healthcare stakeholder relationships and navigate the complex federal healthcare environments at national, regional, and local levels.

Internal Communication/Collaboration (15%)

  • Work closely with office and field based Medical teams to shape, develop, and co-execute the CMP.

  • Lead projects, hold others accountable, and deliver results within timelines while communicating consistently and effectively with internal stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain an internal stakeholder network, including leadership teams.

  • Provide scientific and technical support towards material development for internal and external stakeholders, where applicable and aligned with relevant policies.

  • Provide scientific support for internal functions such as commercial, market access, regulatory/PV, and R&D regarding scientific trainings and updates.

People Leadership (10%)

  • Improve MSL team effectiveness by supporting the US Regional FBM Head in coaching and mentoring the team through optimized use of the Scientific Engagement Model and supporting onboarding and enduring training.

  • Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and complete complex Medical projects in a logical sequence within given time and resource constraints.

Data Generation (10%)

  • Identify potential data sources and develop partnerships for clinical studies (i.e., real-world evidence, IIS)

  • Support data generation and identify opportunities for further data collection by:

    • Engaging with clinical investigators to support company sponsored trials.

    • Supporting investigator sponsored studies, either clinical or investigator-led, in a compliant manner

    • Support real-world evidence (RWE) development according to local needs.

Internal Training and Education (5%)

  • Complete MSL onboarding and certification program

  • Complete all MSL SOP trainings and all other corporate assigned compliance trainings.

  • Commit to applying and continued practice of the Scientific Engagement Model and Insights process.

  • Continue to develop and maintain technical therapy area and soft skills.

  • Create individual development plan aligned with career aspirations.

About You

Education/Experience/Certification -

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Medical, scientific, or pharmacy field (MD, PhD, PharmD).

  • 5+ years of healthcare experience in federal institution (Ex. MTFs) with understanding of overall federal healthcare systems and regulations or 3+ years’ customer facing Medical experience.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to simplify complex topics, good negotiation and networking skills including familiarity with multi-channel tools and ability to communicate via digital channels from remote environment.

  • Demonstrated success in project management and experience with mentoring and coaching MSLs or other healthcare professionals in federal institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Veteran or retired military with military ID (DOD-CAC) card (retired, reserve, guard, or retired spouse) to access military installations.

  • Deep established relationships with key federal immunization leaders

  • Good understanding or prior experience in clinical development and clinical research with ability to critically evaluate clinical study protocols, reports, and publications.

Competencies that the successful candidate should possess:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the disease state, therapeutic area, relevant products in the Vaccine portfolio and pipeline.

  • Good knowledge of pharmacovigilance and local regulatory process and its impact on the Vaccine portfolio.

  • Strong business acumen in Federal Account space, with experience building strategic Medical plans and successfully implementing Medical initiatives.

$144,750.00 - $209,083.33
